Went to the bookstore Thursday while Wesley was at pre-school, figured I’d let Nate play at the Thomas table there without a big brother taking all the fun toys. Strangely enough, he usually just ends up playing beside some 3 year old who acts like Wesley. Or wandering around. I swear he doesn’t really know what to do with toys he is usually being ordered around or redirected.
I flipped through Handmade Beginnings while I waited. I must have it. Lots of willpower was used in the non-buying of this book. There’s been too much shopping lately. It is however near the top of my wishlist now! There’s a great pillow pattern in there and an awesome hide and seek quilt as well. Anna Maria Horner also have a nifty little blog as well as another book.
Thanks to finding Blue Calla I have now found Keyka Lou, which is where she gets her patterns. Downloaded the bracelet bag pattern the other night with my friend, figuring we’d make it together. But then of course I’ve gotten ahead of things and cut it out already. Too excited to try a new project!
Here’s what I’ve got so far.
Just debating the button choice, I’m leaning towards the brown wood one. Any opinions?
It was super easy and quick. Rather than attaching velcro I decided to be brave and attach a snap. Off to Michael’s I went, coupon in hand, to get the snappy thingie installer tool. That too was easy to use, even if my snap ended up a little off center.
I’m very excited today! First I have someone selling me their old Cricut machine. It’s going to come in super handy for my cloth counting books and also scrapbooking and well all other papercrafts.
THEN unexpectedly, my hubby asked me if I wanted a sewing machine our friends are selling. He even came home this morning with a piece of fabric stitched with cute little hearts and leaves and the other fun embroidery designs it does. (You knew that would seal the deal right Tabatha?) How could I say ‘no’? It’s a BabyLock, which I know nothing about, hopefully it’s pretty user friendly. My current machine is pretty basic. He’s meeting them later this afternoon and will bring it home for me. It’s like an early Mother’s day with so many presents.
Found myself some more fun online! Went over to Pepperberry & Co and saw there was a need for pattern testers! I thought it might be fun and of course there’s some free perks involved for playing along. I’m so happy to have been assigned the ipod/iphone cover thingie. What a coincidence i just got an iphone about 2 weeks ago! Can’t wait to get started on it.
Last night I sewed a girlie rag quilt together. Since I have 4 boy sort of themed ones I thought I should make some more girlie ones before my show on Saturday. So I made this neat one with pinks and purples and cute little owls.
I plunked it on the kitchen table to remember to snip it today and, as it was very late (much like now), I turned off all the lights on the main floor and was about to go upstairs. Then I forgot something and came back into the kitchen to get it. At first I thought my eyes weren’t adjusted to the dark or something but there on the table where all these little green circles! When I walked closer I realised it was the eyes on the owls! Apparently it’s glow in the dark fabric!!! I bought it almost a year ago and didn’t remember that at all. So it’s a pretty cool quilt.
Sorry for the plain photos, Picnik is acting wonky and I’m tired.
So I’ve decided to dedicate Fridays to sharing all the creative people I’ve found as a result of this blog endeavour of mine. I’ve got a pile to work through and I’d like to start with Blue Calla. Met her at a little Mommies night out thing a few weeks ago and, thanks to my weakness for all things tote/purse/bag related, I made a purchase. Here’s the wonderful little number I bought.
She uses such nice fabrics and the patterns are very stylish. I’ve been using the bag since, almost everyone comments on it. I learned from my Hot Butter purchase that people like fun one of a kind bags and usually ask, “Did you make that?” so I grabbed a bunch of her business cards and I’ve been giving them out when people ask!
Here’s some more of her great stuff. Find her on Facebook where you can see her entire fabric selection!
So I signed up for this swap at SewMamaSew and it was too fun! First I got to dig through my ever growing stash of fabric and find some things I thought other people might like. THEN envelopes with fabric started to arrive!!
So fun! Tanya was playing along too, she sent me the fun aqua colour fabric that reminds me of those sparkles in 50’s counter tops. Kristin was a super star and said she was decluttering and sent 3 fat quarters!!!
I finished my cute little tray for the show. I even sprayed the back with chalkboard paint and figured I might be able to use it as a sign if need be. I wrote on it with one of my bright chalkboard markers, which I finally relocated!
I also made 4 rag quilts to try out. Nothing like adding an item at the last minute! They’re really fun to make and I have oodles of flannel to use up. I went on a binge just cutting it all up into squares so it’s easy to grab some piles and plan a layout.
I love the one with the little monkeys and bananas floating in space. The other ones have vehicles, monsters and aliens. They’re all really fun. Hoping to get 2 more done tomorrow in some girly colours,
Tomorrow (today?) I’ll post some of the ideas I came up with for displays, I think they’re super neat!
Things I do here. It used to be papercrafts but now I’ve moved more into things that involve fabric, sewing and embroidery.
2. Favorite tv show?
I think I have to be lame and claim a tie right now.
3. Favourite restaurant food?
Anything spicy and not something we could make ourselves (or at least not as well as the restaurant). Pad thai is fantastic . . . . and naan freshly made at the restaurant . . . . and fattoush . .
Books!!! Books!!! Books!!! Right now they all seem to be sewy or crafty books.
5. Favorite animal?
I love giraffes! I’ve got the perfect picture I took at the zoo one day.
6. Favorite song?
I’m all about soundtracks lately. This is pretty much on repeat in the van, otherwise the Wiggles get requested.
7. Favorite word?
I make words up a lot, I figure years of university to get an English degree gives me the right. I’ve always liked words that are fun and silly to say, French has a bunch of those, like ananas and pamplemousse. Then I found these guys, which makes pamplemousse an even cooler word!
8. Recent favorite youtube video?
We’ve been sharing childhood favourite with our son. It’s fantastic to watch him crack up with the giggles over things that made us laugh too. This one has been asked for many times.
9. Favorite movie?
10. Favorite childhood memory?
Meet Sparky, he’s my big pink elephant. My mom’s bff gave him to me pretty much the day I was born, I’ve still got him. I spent a HUGE part of my life cuddling him at night while i slept. Once when I was little I remember having to go to bed without him and being so upset. I remember my mom bringing him in to tuck him under my arms when he came out of the laundry. He was still all warm and smelled like Sunlight, it was awesome. Even in my sleepy state it was great.
