Me and MOO!

I ordered mini Moo cards a while back and love them. They’re great quality and such a novel little size that they stand out when you give them to people. But with the recent offer for free business cards I decided to try those too. So my mini Moos turned into tags for my items, there’s even room to write/sticker a price on as well if I so desire.

My free business cards came the other day.  Only cost $7 for the shipping, it was a super deal!

Happy Mother’s day to all the mothers!

Hope everyone is having a great Mother’s day. Just wanted to wish everyone well for today and share the cute little craft Wesley brought home from pre-school this week, tea for me!

The little poem says, “On Mother’s Day at 1/2 past three, make yourself a cup of tea.”

My hubby pointed out that the tea bag is actually glued into the little pocket, hehe oops. It’s still super cute.

Have a fantastic day ladies!

Sew Mama Sew fabric swap fun!

So I signed up for this swap at SewMamaSew and it was too fun!  First I got to dig through my ever growing stash of fabric and find some things I thought other people might like.  THEN envelopes with fabric started to arrive!!

So fun!  Tanya was playing along too, she sent me the fun aqua colour fabric that reminds me of those sparkles in 50’s counter tops. Kristin was a super star and said she was decluttering and sent 3 fat quarters!!!

Wow I’m pooped!

I exploded everything I’ve been working on for the past bunch of weeks onto the kitchen table Friday night to impress myself with my industrious creativity. Check it out!

So are you impressed with my industrious creativity?  I sure was.  I thought it would be 100 things but when I checked my inventory list it was just over 80, still impressive.  Then I packed everything up and enlisted my husband’s help in getting all the sticky a-straw-was-here patches off the juice totes while we watched Glee, Modern Family AND The Office.  Yeah, it took a while.  When we were done it was almost midnight and I opted for some sleep instead of trying to get one more thing done.

The show was fun, I met some nice people and saw some neat crafts.  Some people made suggestions for items of modifications to my items which was cool.  The juice pouch totes were my best seller, a little boy picked one out for his mom for mother’s day, it was cute.  A lady approached me about being in a show strictly for upcycling items so now I’m thinking up new ideas to expand my inventory to include more than tea cup pincushions and juice pouch totes.    My photographer friend Joanna took a pic of our tables, I’ll share them once she recovers!

At the silent auction I bid on Joanna’s friend’s sock monkey sweatshirt and won! The creator is Robin and she makes super cool and nifty sock animals.

Apparently the traffic wasn’t what is should have been and some of the other vendors were upset. It was slower than last year so vendors who had been there in the past were a little disappointed. But I had a fun day out, met neat people, got some new ideas, hung out beside my friend and had some me time away from the kiddies.

When I woke up this morning I didn’t want to even look at crafts let alone do one . . . . but there are these rag quilt squares all spread out on the floor downstairs and I think I hear them calling my name . . . .

If I had a little girl I think her room would be cupcake themed!

Imagine!

Scrapbooking retreat fun!

I’m away for the weekend at a scrapbooking retreat. It’s the first time I’ve had a weekend away from both the kiddies. Bit scary but fun too. There are 11 ladies here and last night the room cleared out, except for me! Of course, in my new found habit of staying up insanely late to craft I wasn’t tired and felt like I could keep going for a while. I made it to 1:30, watching shows on my lappy and working away. Breakfast is at 8:30 and apparently if I miss it I have to eat Doritos, Strudel and candy for breakfast instead. I’m undecided whether or not that’s a bad thing. I woke up this morning and the clock said 8:54, so I jumped up and ran to the dining room in my jammies. Everyone was gone already but the food was still out so I grabbed a plate and headed to my area.

The internet is rather flaky here and I didn’t bring my camera so I’m getting creative with my post and sharing some things I purchased from Etsy the other day. Shopping online is waaay to easy. I went on to gather things for the Tell Your Story class, specifically ephemera. I found these absolutely adorable stamps from Australia in this store.

I also got these awesome tags with illustrations of 70’s ladies on them. I’m loving the one with the daisy earrings and happy sunshine smile.

I think I’m going to have to make some time to hit up antique stores and root through boxes and bins. I remember years ago when I lived in Ottawa doing that one day with my room mates. I came away with some old black and white photos and even some bank slips and cheques from the turn of the century. It was such neat stuff.

OMG!

I have to admit I feel rather lame using that title for this post but there are no other letters or words that can express the excitement I feel after today! The other day my cousin called. She’s been helping our friend clean up after his wife just up and left rather suddenly taking only a few things with her. She called to tell me there was ‘a lot of fabric and craft supplies’. She offered to pack it up and bring it over in boxes but I figured I’d like to visit, see the house, take the kids somewhere new and said I would drive out on my next day off. I was told to make sure the back of the van was empty.

When we got there and I followed her into the basement I could not believe my eyes! I’m kicking myself now for not taking my camera. There were 5 or 6 bookshelves, those wobbily simple pine ones, lining the walls of the ‘sewing room’ and the shelves were covered in folded up pieces of fabric!! Denim, silky stuff, corduroy, flannel . . . everything! On the floor there were boxes and bins of fabric, patterns, yarn, gimp . . . it was only a few hours ago but I honestly can’t even remember it all it was sooo much. She told me to take whatever I wanted. Organizing is a passion of hers, as is cleaning, so she’s been really busy over there. Apparently this lady could have been on that hoarders show, it was insane the amount of stuff there. We set to work while my kids played with new to them toys in a nice big house.

Here’s a peak at some of the things that came home with me today.  There’s still more waiting for me back there, I thought I’d slowly bring it into the house to avoid sending my hubby into shock.  There was  soft and cuddily minky fabrics for my taggie blankies, I brought home a basket full, more in a box and there’s a big garbage bag full still waiting to come home with me.  We found patterns for Cabbage Patch clothes and Sailor Moon costumes.  As well as patterns to make your own Love A Lot Carebear or Popples!  We came across the Popple fabric and other than remembering my cousin had the ‘white one’ we could not remember what they were called.  The closest we got was they had something to do with ‘pop’.  Luckily we later found the pattern which solved the mystery and spared us having to Google it.  The back of the package names the Popples as Puzzle, Puffball and Prize.  No clue which is which.

I also grabbed some baskets to use at the craft show I’m going to in May.  There’s still a ton more there and I promised to return with a friend who would appreciate the chance at free fabric.  It was a great fun day with my cuz and I came home with many treasures!

Easy Easter treat stand.

Made this cute little stand for our Easter/springtime snacks.  My friend and I have been on the hunt at thrift stores for the perfect pieces to make a cake stand.  While browsing Joann’s last week she happened to pick up an egg cup and a small plate and we had an idea.  So we each picked up a cup and plate.  They were in a clearance aisle for 50% off!   A little bit of glue . . ..

A little bit of drying . . . .

All ready to go, just add treats!

Steggie #2 and some great buys.

Finally finished Wesley’s Steggie a few days ago, orange and blue as he requested (I’m such a nice Mommy).  Here are the 2 Steggie brothers just hanging out.

He turned out pretty cute.  Not sure I want to attempt another one right now, I’m taking a Steggie break.  I’ll move onto a different One Yard Wonders project now thank you very much!

More fun exciting handmade mail arrived for me!  I figured with my growing collection of sewing and craft books I needed some cute bookplates.

They’re one of the many wonderful creations by Cabin and Cub.  I’m totally in love with this piece but really need to wait on making yet another purchase.

While on my cross border shopping spree I picked up these 2 cute fabrics, can’t wait to make a bag or tote of some sort out of them!  The green checkered one with the little apples was on sale for $3 a yard!  I should have bought more.

And while I love this little forest wristlet from Hot Butter I just ordered a bag from her, and it’s awesome and all but pretty soon I might have to seek professional help for my bag/tote/purse buying.  Instead I found the cute mushroom fabric while at Joann’s and picked up a yard just to have on hand in case I am inspired to make my own purse of some form someday, sorry Ashley Ann.  Shhhhh, in my mind it’s not the same as buying one to add to my collection.

Happy mail package #1, Dainty Squid and ribbon fun!

It’s been a great week for mail here, and it’s only Wednesday!!  This came yesterday, my order from Dainty Squid.

Then this came today, my first package of Happy Mail. I gotta say I was pretty impressed with my fun stuff form Elisa. I was really surprised when I took my package for her to the post office and found out it was going to be $13 to send a package across our wonderful home and native land! But with all the cool stuff she sent, and the smile my gifts will put on her face it’s all worth it!

Theeeeennnn I went to see my photographer friend, Joanna today, and she brought us back some ribbon from her trip to the states. I was all hyped to order this stuff when I found out about it, $2.95 a bag?! tons of colours and fun selections?! $19.99 to ship to Canada?!!?! nevermind. Since she was heading to the states to visit we sent 4 bags to her Mom’s which she then was kind enough to squeeze into her luggage for the trip home.

I dumped it all out and divided it into wide and thin ribbons and cut TONS of pieces to make taggie blankets. A lot of it is polka dot and so fun and nice vibrant colours.

Ok I am going to attempt to go to bed, this will be the earliest in I don’t know how long. I’ve been creating into the wee hours, or my brain keeps me up with thoughts connected to creating! My friend and I are making a run for the border tomorrow for some shopping, for all that stuff no one will ship to us poor Canadians, so I need my rest!
