I won!

I’m still a tad in shock. I’m not one for running all over and entering giveaways, unless it’s something I really like. Sometimes I’m just so behind in my RSS I miss the fun all together. Well this time, let me tell you, I’m super glad I went and entered because I won!!!

What did I win you may be asking . . . I can barely bring my self to type it I’m so thrilled, an embroidery hoop masterpiece from Lucky Jackson!!!!!

And I get an email saying go to the shop and pick one. Pick one. Seriously, how!?

Lookit these things? They’re fantastic.

People wonder how I have time to create so many things, I’m following patterns, or making 10 at a time, or spending 1 day madly crafting and not touching it again for a week. This lady makes one of these things every single day. I’m amazed. And then she says “how weird is it you won and I’m a fan of your blog?!” I love the handmade community.

You can see the works so far here in this Flickr pool.

Please, meet some lovely ladies.

Here’s a little bit about this month’s sponsors, I also asked everyone what they were pumped about for 2012.

Meet Vanessa!

I share a bit of everything on my blog. . .sewing tutorials, photo tips, digital freebies, pattern reviews, giveaways, etc. I’ve also got my etsy shop, {lbg studio}, where I sell stuff like camera strap covers, accessories, and sewing patterns.

My biggest goal for this year….to publish more sewing patterns! It’s a lot of work but pretty rewarding when it’s all said and done. I also want to continue working on my photography skills because I just can’t seem to put my camera down and continue to work on improving the ol’ blog.

Check out the shop and her boards on Pinterest.

Here’s Brianna!

The One Year Lease is a repository for the things that inspire me and bring me joy in life- art, photography, crafts, food, and, most of all, my family. Life is full of incredible moments. I hope to capture as many of them as possible.

Last year was such an amazing year with our daughter finally joining our family that I can’t imagine 2012 will be able to hold a candle. Still, with so many possibilities in the world, I am looking forward to finding adventure with our little family in the year to come.

Say hello to Katrina!

Why I sew all sorts of things.

I like to try different things with sewing, I find I learn something. Sometimes it’s a big Ah Ha moment other times it’s just a neat little trick. I picked up this panel of fabric at Fabricland for something ridiculous like $4 a few months ago. My aunt is a big Elvis fan so I figured I’d make it for her. When I sat down to sew it I figured it was a no-brainer, cut and sew.

*Ignore the cat chasing a ball of paper and the big garbage bag in the background.

It was really simple but they used this neat way of boxing the bottom corners of the bag but folding the bottom all accordion like before stitching it. So I learned something new. Plus my aunt was all happy.

My infomercial for the week

Usually I’m a tad behind in my Google reader, and I end up missing some fun sale, or giveaway or contest or something. But it was my lucky day when I was on Twitter and saw Keyka Lou say she was having a sample sale for a laptop sleeve.

Now I already own most of her patterns, but I didn’t have a laptop sleeve and could totally make myself one, but this fabric was cute and it’s made by someone I admire so much. Of course I had to buy it!

The photos are Michelle’s, they’re way better than I can take right now in the scantily lit Canadian winter.

Double Rainbow

‘So Intense’ by sewtara

I’ve sold a strange amount of my double rainbow pillows lately. I figured a rainbow treasury was in order.

Happy Holidays!

Whatever you’re doing today have a fantastic day!

We’re enjoying more present craziness, breakfast and lupper before we head off on the first part of our journey to Belize. Have a great bunch of days everyone!

Score 37 to 7

Ok I had a minute a few moments ago to let my mind wander while ‘guggling’ Nate on the couch and watching Thomas (yet again). For some silly reason I got thinking about how much of our furniture arrived in a box, all flat. So I got counting.

There are 35 pieces in our house that came in a box flat. Over 30 of them are from IKEA. I’m not sure if that’s an accomplishment or just sad.

There are only 7 things that didn’t come in a box and most of them have good reason
– an old cedar chest I got from my Grandfather
– my over-a-hundred-year-old piano
– an end table my mother in law built
– a fish tank stand my hubby built
– our couch (1 piece but from IKEA)
– an ottoman (came from IKEA, perhaps in a box, definitely a bag)
– my son’s dresser that used to be my hubby’s

When we moved into our house 4 years ago and needed to furnish it we just sort of went to IKEA and figured we’d get ‘real’ stuff later. I wonder when later is :/

Sponsors!

Well hello there! So is everyone as busy as I am? This week is just crazy. I’m having a Christmas-Birthday Extravaganza with my bff on Wednesday, Nate’s 3rd birthday party on Thursday, Nate’s actual birthday on Friday, the hubby’s Christmas with his family on Saturday, Christmas on Sunday and then at about 6pm we head off to a hotel to sleep for the night before we leave for our 6am flight on Monday!

Yipes, it’s stressing me out just to type it all. So let’s have some fun instead and take a few moments to browse around and visit some awesome ladies. I didn’t actually assign homework in this busy, busy month so I’ve just ran around and found some of the things I like best about my sponsors.

Krista from Thar She Sews!

I love this Baby’s First Ornament DIY! It can also be made for anyones anytime Christmas. There’s still a few days, get sewing!

I love the fact that it can be made with scraps!

Katy from The Funky Monkey here is her shop.
This giraffe hair clip holder is really cute . . . wonder if I could use it.

Janee from Yellow Bird Yellow Beard

I know I just made some soft blocks for a friend but how cool are these ones with this fun cloud pattern? I’m also crushing on George.

Sara from Sarbear’s Journey

I love this earring DIY Sara shares on her blog. It’s a new goal of mine to accessorize more and that’s lead me to the problem of storing said accessories. This is a great solution for earring overpopulation.

Faith over at the Bartering Blogger is just super giving. She’s always linking people, sharing the love and well, bartering. Pop on over if your RSS feed is in need of some more great blogs and creative ladies.

My photographer friend Joanna takes awesome pics (handy isn’t it) she’s got a lovely website and a Facebook page. We’ve been doing shows together and we’ve been making magnets too. She’s got a shop too but with a little wee baby at home she’s kinda busy. She took this great photo of Nate’s little toes when he was just 6 or so months old.

Hey girl

So usually my hubby knows all the goofy memes going around before I do, since he spends all day at a computer.  Last night I had the pleasure of filling him in on the Handmade Ryan Gosling site, which apparently is based on the plan Ryan Gosling memes that say “Hey girl” and aren’t about handmade items, which is based on some other silly meme . . . . Yeah whatever.  If you make things yourself, sell stuff at craft shows, have an online shop these pictures will be funny to you.

Plus, I’d never really noticed before but sometimes Ryan Gosling isn’t too bad to look at either.

Having sat at tables at craft fairs this one made me chuckle.

Multiple trips to the post office lately and convos/emails about shipping status makes me appreciate this one.

And this one’s just great, I wonder if Mr Gosling knows what baker’s twine is . . .

City of Craft fun.

On Saturday I headed into Toronto and volunteered at the City of Craft. If you happened to come to the event I was frantically trying to stamp hands and click that little people counter thingie at the same time. They give away swag bags to the first 100 people on Saturday morning. The doors opened at 11:00 and the bags were gone in about 5 minutes, seriously.

After my shift I wandered around the show and found these lovely ladies Have and Hold Design who were running a fun photobooth. Everyone seemed to be going in with a friend and getting super silly so I was a little hesitant at doing it but I was talked into it. That’s the fun shot they took.

I also picked up this great mitten lino print, I seem to be addicted to buying art lately. It’s by Katie Muth.

I regret not buying this one too.
