Friday Create Along

Ok first order of business is picking the lucky giveaway winner! Aaaaannnnd it’s Lee! Congrats Lee, Cristina has your info and will contact you. Have fun getting all pretty.

Next up is the addmission that I’m not done my camera pouch yet. I was on the second to last step last night and I can’t get the project to reach my needle! The arm part of my machine is just a touch too long for the project to slide up so I can stitch it. I tried as best as I could but when I turned it righside out there’s spots where the stitching didn’t catch all the layers. I’m going to check with some neighbours to see if their machine’s have shorter arm pieces and I’ll be able to slip the pouch on. I choose the small pattern, guess I shouldn’t have! Reveal coming soon.

Whew. Ok so here’s my completed NapKitten hamburger wallet thingie. (honestly, I talk like that, meet me I’ll prove it)

It’s cute, but it’s also ridiculously wonky. I had a hard time with this one. I’ve completed 3 NapKitten patterns and I love them all. The wallet was just involved, the phone pouch is super easy and fun, and this . . . I’m not sure what I did but it’s embarassingly crooked and made. I think I choose thick fabrics and because of that I should have bypassed the fleece inside. I might get brave and try another.

The two zippers were interesting to work with, and the assembly is interesting. I, as usual, didn’t read the instructions all the way before starting and the whole time I was thinking “it looks all unfinished inside, how’s it going to get all pretty in there?” then I saw you have to cover it all with bias tape that you make yourself. Bias tape is sort of my nemesis. So for now it’s pretty thready in there.

I’m not done my Keyka Lou camera pouch, which is sad because I have a 9am flight to NYC and I was hoping to pack and pad my camera but oh well. Life sort of got in the way of sewing this week! Silly life. There’s always next week.

Friday Create Along

Well it’s sort of half a Create Along really since I have no reveal. This week I’m just announcing the next project. In honour of having NapKitten Patterns here as a sponsor this month I’d like to take this opportunity to tackle another one of her patterns.

I’m going to attempt this Cute Hamburger. Previously I’ve made the wallet (in my first Create Along!) and the iPhone sleeve, here’s my version.

I love the fabrics she uses and the whole Japanese inspired design of her patterns. Hope you’ll join me!

I used Noodlehead’s tutorial . . . well, kinda. I used it as inspiration and then went on to make up my own cases for my kids. While I loved the little buttons for tires idea I decided to go with monograms instead. The boys were really excited about them this morning, Nana just gave them some new markers and crayons so they have place to put them now.

I’m going to be simple and practical for the next project. These tooth fairy pockets that were shared on Heartmade Blog. Wesley has already lost a tooth and the one beside it is loose so this will come in handy for sure.

Miss me?

In my haste to get ready for my table today I didn’t post my Create Along, silly me.
But it’s probably a good thing because I’m not done my Cozy Blue creation anyway. I plan on working away on it while I sit today.

So reveal to come soon and here’s a fun quick tutorial for our next project. It’s from Noodlehead and I’ve had this page open in a tab for a while and my kids caught sight of it so now I’ve been nudged to making some.

Plus I’ve got loads of fun vehicle themed Japanese fabric lying around. Yeah, I have a problem.

Winner!

Congrats to Christine who is the lucky winner of the Cozy Blue pattern! Thanks so much to everyone who entered, and of course to Cozy Blue for the generous donation.

Thanks to the plague that got me I’ve only just traced my design and plunked it in a hoop. Not sure I’ll have much to reveal on Friday.

I made my adorable little brooch, of course late at night once again so I Instagrammed it (is that a word now?). I’m growing quiet the little collection of handmade accessories, I’ll have to post them soon.

Next up is this great embroidery pattern. It’s for your family tree, which could include loved ones and pets too.

Not only is it a fun little project I have an even funner part (yes, I really talk like that in person) I contacted CozyBlue and they’ve agreed to give away 1 copy of the pattern to a lucky blog reader. Check out the Flickr group to see all the fun creations people have made using their patterns.

Leave a comment here until Tuesday February 28th and I’ll announce a winner in my post on Wednesday. For fun tell me what you love from the shop.

I think these are really nice.

Good luck!

Friday Create Along

Ok so here’s the tutorial for last week, the little macaroons. I finished mine last night.

It’s pretty cute. It’s also pretty tiny and other than storing or giving rings/earrings I’m not sure what else I could do with it.

I also had a problem, see if you can figure it out.

Yeah, there’s no way I can get the inside pieces in. I might have to get a slightly smaller size. I’m not sure if the fabric I chose for the outside is too thick, it’s a Japanese cotton/linen blend. Or if it’s just all to bulky in there.

But the good news is no one will ever see in there since this is my little macroon and at least it looks great from the outside!

Next up is this charming little brooch. Now this is a great project because it’s hand sewing, uses felt and creates an accessory and that fits with my goal to accessorize more!

Here’s my awesome little phone cozies! I made the owl one according to the pattern but my iPhone 3 has a case (after I smashed it at school last year) so it’s a little thicker than it should be. I made the button fabric one to fit my phone.

Next I want to try these fun little macaron coin purses.

**UPDATE** I got my snaps at this great store. The colours are amazing and the selection is fantastic! I was really happy with them. I

Here are some reveals.

Wipe container letters and numbers? Ta da!

Lavender sachets? Ta da!

Crocheted slippers? . . . pass for now.

Up next this cute little phone pouch pattern available from Nap Kitten. I assure you this pattern is much easier than her wallet, ailment which kicked off this Create Along adventure.
